The DDRC research laboratory was established in 2001 in the support of the DDRC investigations and research projects. The lab is equipped with the necessary facilities to meet the needs of the ongoing researches of the center. The directing board also plans for the future expansion of the facilities and improvement of the expertise according to the strategies of our research center.
DDRC laboratory has four major fully active sections:
1- Histopathology lab is our oldest unit and has supported most of the large scale investigations of DDRC since 2001. Conventional histopathology, histochemistry and immunohistochemistry are routinely performed in this unit.
2- Section of immunopathology was our second unit to become operative and is equipped with facilities for ELISA and immunofluorescent studies.
The serologic studies for viral hepatitis B and C as well as celiac disease are the marjor investigation preformed in this unit.
3- The molecular pathology facility is the most exciting unit for our young investigators with the capability of full performance of small- scaled molecular investigations and supporting large- scaled researches by extraction of high quality DNA and RNA from different biological samples.
Our "Real Time PCR" facility takes advantage of a high tech "Roche Light Cycler" machine and is active in the quantitative HBV DNA and HCV RNA assays.
The lab is also equipped with instruments required for molecular hybridization techniques.
The molecular lab is the main unit intended to be expanded and improved in the future.
4- DDRC biorepository is our youngest unit taking advantage of the "Freezerworks" ® software, four deep freezers and dedicated personnel. There is a constant flow of different frozen biologic samples into and out of the active biorepository to support the national and international collaborative studies as well as the local research projects preformed in DDRC.
DDRC lab has benefited from 2 major satellite laboratory facilities in Gonbad and Ardabil which are actively collecting biological samples according to the protocols of our large – scaled field studies on upper GI cancers in northern Iran. These satellite labs are equipped with straw fillers and deep freezers to fulfill their mission of specimen collection and handling.
DDRC lab is a non- profit research laboratory using the resources of DDRC and is planned to be continuously improved according to the needs of our changing scientific environment.
